Journal Entry Begins Below:

It's starting again.

Every time I think things are quieting down, and actually start telling people to join, and buy another subscription or two for people, it starts again. It makes me sick, beyond nauseas.

After 6 months, an image was removed due to a policy violation -- of course, no names are ever given to whom decided it.

And, a quick search of the site shows other images similar, worse, and much, much worse, still racking up views.

It was a piercing photo, of a piercing after it was done. Nothing policy violation about it, nothing that was non-documentary. Nothing that wasn't able to be done/seen at your local piercing shop in a 20 minute slot.

Not as graphic as the bloody "play" piercings, nor the suspensions, nor fresh piercings people do all the time.

Who decides what is acceptable or not? One person should NOT EVER have the right or power to censor ANYONE. That is one person silencing another.

It should never, ever be less than 5 people deciding if something that is not a clear-cut violation -- I mean CLEAR CUT, no interpretation -- before anything is deleted. And, it should ALWAYS BE a _RANDOM_ set of 5 or more people, not the same ones each time, or again, it's one group silencing another.

Censorship is censorship no matter how you slice and dice it.

This is the ONLY SYSTEM I have _EVER_ in over 20 years of being on-line had any images/content removed. And, times are much more permissive and expressive now than they were in the 80's and 90's, so there is *BIG* problem here.

This isn't even a "family" system, and I've had images removed from this site that *WERE* on a FAMILY based BBS system 20 years ago.

Something is seriously wrong here.

The ONLY THING DEVIANT about DEVIANT ART is the censorship.

And, that will be it's biggest downfall, weeding out the artists from the tow-the-party-line mimicking monkeys.

The "ART" here is not. They are trying hard to make this simply a deviantSPACE, a picture hosting site, and a place for people to dump their camera cards, rather than an "art" site. It's a real shame, and a down right crime.

I guess I'm going to have to pull my art again.... <sigh> I can't upload art to a system that censors it, and allows ONE PERSON to silence another.

Scott

I saw that photo right before it was removed. I liked it. I didn't see where it was offensive at all. I would have no problem modeling for a very similar photograph.

I saw a photo entitled "Nip Tuck" (I believe) on this site today. It was of a female holding scissors or another sharp object under her breast. It appears as if she was trying to remove the breast. There was "blood" running down the torso. I thought it was quite an interesting image; however, saw no reason for it to be less offensive then the picture of a nipple piercing just after it was done.
