Overpowering Daylight - 01

Description

On another system, a lot of the photo snobs insist you can't "over power daylight" with a measly 800 ws Alien Bee strobe. The "numbers" just always said they were wrong.

Well, I got a new ABR 800 (ring light) and decided to play with it, and see if it could over power daylight.

This image was taken at near noon, on a CLOUDLESS and HAZELESS day, on top of the mountain overlooking Pittsburgh.

I think a single ABR800 did a pretty good job of "over powering" daylight, and turning Noon into a pseudo dusk. Obviously I had another stop or maybe even two to go, but it was really hard to see the LCD it was so bright out, and judge what I was capturing.

Outdoors just doesn't get much brighter than this.

You could go to a higher elevation, such as in Colorado, or you could go to an area with more "scatter" light like a beach or snow covered mountain, but actual "brightness" or light doesn't get more than full sun on a cloudless day at near noon. Shadows were just not quite over head.

Fantastic job. Those AB's are fantastic. I have one myself.
This is a great portrait of a very lovely lady. I love the environmental setting with the city scape in the background. Looks to me like you accomplished what you set out to do.
